critizism

Papandreou has been critizised in the media many times.
A Dutch clip make some Greeks furious. The clipmaker got many hatemails... even the Greek Embassy protested that freedom of speech is important, but this is a bridge to far.

Nobody understands fucking satire in South east of Europe.Some.Greeks have no self reflection... it's sad that olicharchic Greece think that they invented democracy.
Greece has been run by families since it became a republic of the Orthodox.
This clip represents the anger of the unorthodox world....

N-word

Es gibt größere Probleme wie das Amerikänischen N-wort.
Nevertheless I want to express my opinion.

"..... but names will never harm." This is right.. but the man in the street says also it depends on the way you say it. The N-word in HF is functional and removing it means censorship... So wrong.... Maybe in the USA people might sue the publisher..
To censor yourself is an act of good taste. (or it can cost you a lot of money)
Look at Sarah Palins deathlist that should be illegal and be censored!

Did I hear a lady say "that's how the Dutch think."
Holland is a small nation and we always try to find common sense. But the freedom of speech and expression is one of the basic principles in the Dutch constitution.
The Court will judge if it is in violation of a (higher) law.

World

Freedom is great, but what is freedom?

In this blog the writer says the right thing concerning Mrs Simple Palin.

She has the right to take a stand. She has the right to target members of congress like they are animals which should be decimated.
Does she have the integrity and Christian moral (love your enemy...) not to do that?

America has double moral standard. Murdering abortion doctors is OK. Gun smoke is okay to get rid of your enemy. Born to kill. Death row is OK. 19 Years in prison for help in a street robbery. 30 Years locked up behind bars is OK even if you are not guilty.

For conservative America believing in the God of love apparently everything is allowed.

There might be a screw loose in the United States. The world needs conservative Joe the Plumber to repair. Well, you know, the conservatives are reigning in Europe. Europe could help a hand.

Maslow's

This weekend I got plenty of time, ha ha. 230 Pages of authenticity of family life left. Great story, freedom. I ask myself if there can be freedom without love.

Mountaintop mining, nature conservancy (here Walter Berglund, the key person in the book, worked before working for a foundation), family, politics, love, my headache is coming up.
In fact, Walter Berglund mentioned falling over the edge. That is the risk as I mention risk of climbing Maslow's mountain in the header.

He loves Lalitha but could suppress it for a year or so. (I suppressed my love for E.) In case of Walter the love was mutual. As I experienced too the love expressed itself under stressed conditions.

This very book is also about climbing Maslow's mountain. Here I ask if you can do that without love.

So in fact I got 2 philosophical questions. I wonder if someone knows the answer without questioning to much. Ha ha.

ps. Do you need freedom to climb maslow's mountain?

Freedom

It's the title of Jonathan Franzen his book about family matters, the hope and despair in families and about impossible ambitions.
I heard Obama read the book too. Is it maybe because of the similarities between the book and his administration?
Freedom is a page turner. Can't wait to see where it leads to.

Today I was thinking how to finish a book I'm writing.
It's about the negligence of the north east of my country by The Hague, that's the nations political heartland.
Two things happened.
-Firstly the PVV (Party of Freedom) wants votes to get into the Senate. They want Limburg for the people who live there. Of course that will increase the power of the cabinet. There could be some problems... the province of Limburg has no own means. The population is decreasing. The mines are closed a long time ago. The automotive Industry moved. The province should concentrate on tourism in my opinion. The PVV focuses their campaign on the rather negative slogan Not for Mosques but for carnival in Limburg.
This is one of the aspects in the book, the derealization of life there once was. It might be about urgency to be flexible with the change of the environment.
- Secondly, I saw a promotion video. It was a political video on national television for a political party in the north east part of the country Some people from that region want their freedom because the State earns money from the natural resources and doesn't give back means to conserve the region and to make it more prosperous. That party focuses on
separation from The Netherlands. It is from their point of view understandable, but it is so immature. How can you fight for something you don´t really believe in? It has no authenticity if it's only about money. The people living in the periphery of The Hague are not only people represented by these parties.
Authenticity has to do with the values you believe in, your patriotism. If you don't want to defend your country you could also life elsewhere. That makes a separation unlikely.

For citizen in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and in villages and towns which form the heartland of The Netherlands, these views are examples of the dumbness of the people in the region. They look down on the provincials and they know it. People in the province feel that arrogance.

I thought of a despotic leader like Milosevic who led his people into a war. There only has to be one leader who knows how to persuade people to get their freedom. This could be one line in the book.

I should thank E. for her authenticity. She introduced it with me after talking about the whole Maslow thing and her self realization. Concerned E. I'm on a distance now and I see her vulnerability and her being idolized by a colleague.

I hate that idolizing. It's almost sick how he talks about her. How positive and uplifting he is about E. Concerned work he should do anything for her. Miss this and miss that.
I can make myself mad about that. Actually I did last week. But I'm not as direct as most Dutch are in this part of the country. I was angry about another thing, which made him a little bit furious. He tried to stay calm however. But I rejected what he said.

I better read Freedom

9-11

When I say... I am a Muslim
I'm not shouting
"Down with the Christians and Jews."
I am whispering, "I seek peace"
And Islam is the path that I choose.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
I speak of this with pride,
And confess that sometimes I stumble
And need Allah to be my guide.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
I know that makes me strong
And in those times when I am weak
I pray to Allah for strength to carry on.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
I not boasting of success,
I'm acknowledging that Allah has rescued me
And I cannot ever repay the debt.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaw are indeed visible
But Allah forgives
Because his followers are worth it.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
It does not mean I will never feel pain.
I still have my share of heartaches
Which is why I invoke Allah's name.
When I say... I am a Muslim,
I do not wish to judge.
I have no such authority.
My duty is to submit
To Allah's all-encompassing love

This poem Hadiya, aka Hnk, read in december 2004 before her book was published. If you replace Muslim with Christian and Allah with God then the poem still goes. Aren't all religions eventually based on the same universal love?
Isn't that what people need?

freedom means responsiblity

On CNN Dick Cheney, former vice President of the USA said that the policy of President Obama endangered Americans. I have to laugh. He is past, passé, finito, histoire, vergangenen Zeit, verleden tijd. So why does he make that statement?
Does this man feel any responsibility for the things that happened? Guantanamo Bay, Abu Graib? Waterboarding?
Dick Cheney you're as guilty as can be.

The USA under the Bush administration were harmful to the open society. Protecting America's values it was called. Freedom expresses it all. If the republicans were still in power, a massive protection wall would be created to stimulate the own economy. (where is freedom when wealth is at stake?) That protection wall denies that America's power is borrowed power. China and other investors don't want the protectionists to rule the USA and the world. And America has to please them.
America and freedom? I think it's becoming a nightmare.

Freedom of speech is one of the 4 freedoms but I had the feeling while editing this blog that I didn't write down things I wanted to say. Possibly that's a matter of taste.

Sissy Britons

In the Netherlands we have a representative in national Parliament listening to the name Geert Wilders. He made a movie called -Fitna-. He tells us that Islam is a danger for freedom in our country. He says more. He can say that because there is freedom of speech. Now the man is invited by a English MP to show his movie in the English Parliament.
The English Government didn't allow Mr. Wilders to enter Great-Britain.

This is unacceptable. Outrageous in fact.
A country which almost invented speakers' corner doesn't allow mr. Wilders in because of his opinion.
I think it's also not respectable to ban Mr. Wilders for the Dutch nationals who voted for him. He is a member of an European National Parliament and in the EU there is freedom to go where you want, even if you're a political nobody like me.

I think that Great-Britain has made a mistake not accepting Mr. Wilders. This must be a misunderstanding.
I think the Britons simply don't want him because of his haircut.

Free Abdullah al-Mansouri

Abdullah Al-Mansouri is a Dutch Citizen with Iranian roots.
He's imprisoned in Iran because he defends the civil rights of minorities in Iran.
Because of his work he's been given a royal order in name of our queen.
He's been jailed for over a year now, without an attorney of his own choice, juridical assistance, and without contact with a Dutch representative which was allowed in the first place.

This Dutchman might be sentenced to death because of being a defender of civil rights.
The Iranian Ambassador denies this sentence. Amnesty International insists on a fair trail.

I want you to help me and sign the letter at the bottom of this post. Please act now.
Hopefully you understand the urgency of acting.

Iran is sensitive for public opinion (which country isn't in these times? Libya, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, and other countries)

Your Excellency,

I am writing to you regarding the plight of Faleh Abdoullah Al-Mansouri who I understand has been detained for more then one year without any reason being given. Amnesty has been informed that Faleh Abdoullah Al-Mansouri has been brought into court without the assistance of a lawyer of his choice.
This appears to be in violation with the right to a fair trial and therefore against the Convention on Civil and Political Rights that Iran has ratified. I therefore appeal to you to look into this case urgently, with a view to releasing Faleh Abdoullah Al-Mansouri. Faleh Abdoullah Al-Mansouri should get immediate access to a lawyer of his choice, and receive any medical treatment he may require. Furthermore he should be allowed a Dutch representative to be present during the hearings. In no case should the death penalty be imposed.
Yours respectfully,

I signed it. See this link Sadly I couldn't get the english version of it.

Congrats Ocean

The sun is shining for over a month now. We didn't have any rain for over 1.5 months and temperature is far above long year average this year. It's like Holland moved to the Mediterranean. But after this weekend temperature will drop significantly and it will rain in the homeland of Hans Brinker.

But Bangkok (scientist conference about climate) or not climate change will urge us for some action. To keep the world temperature rise limited to 2 degrees it will cost each person in the world 300 Euro a year. Make that 10 times more for people in Europe, America and Australia. Brazilia, India and China should start with environment "friendly" production of the same responsible product.

Better it is to stop consuming goods endangering the environment; I mean consuming, such as using old Philips-lights instead of energy-saving lights, eating meat from the other side of the world instead of meat of cattle from regional farmers (no meat is even better), driving a car or taking a plane instead of using other much more environment-friendly means of transport.

I know hypocracy rules the world (Bob Dylan). I haven't driven a car for 12 years now and it's comfortable to have the opportunity to drive a car when you need one. That's why I had a medical test last month to exclude the risk of epilepsy while driving a car. I have a driving permission of 5 years now and it feels good.
But mainly I still use my bicycles for everything. 3 Weeks ago my cycle-club an I went to the coast and back: 200 kilometers, 2 weeks ago I went to my mother and cycled back home: 200 kilometers and this week for training 280 kilometers (including riding with the club on Sunday, May 6).

Today, May 5, is the day of celebrating our liberty. It started in 1945 and now this day is really changing to a day of looking to the future. In Utrecht at noon the national liberty day began with a liberty-concert. A well known, everybody-likes- them, middle of the road band had a short concert close to my home.

At 11.30 am I heard and saw an Apache coming from the northwest with bands to act and at 1 pm I saw the same helicopter flying to Amsterdam. It was like Apocalypse now. Flying low I saw the guns pointing at the ground. Men with drums and guitars were shooting music to the ground. I heard a rising sound of the motors which overwhelmed the music and then they disappeared as quickly as they came.
In the local paper I read that the heli pilots served in Afghanistan. Those pilots might have fired some Hellfire missiles to a Taliban depot. It´s just that this contrasts with our liberty day.

I took some freedom not to write for a while. Or may be this isn´t freedom at all. In fact the virusprotection licence has ended and I bought an update which could be installed from CD-ROM. When I tried to install the update it seemed that my CD-ROM and DVD didn´t work.

At work everything is fine. Yesterday a girl who worked temporarily at our office resigned. She and her friend will go to Asia for 5 months for a kind of development-aidproject.
She will visit at the end of May first Iran and will go to Isfahan as a stopover for a week. Thanks to readers of Ocean I know it must be a beautiful place to be....

On a training session after work I had my camera with me. I decided to film this ship on the Lek.
