They created a son. And another son. The sons started started a war.

Arab spring

Since February this year a wave of anger of the people of North African countries and on the Arab peninsula paved the way for new rulers. The transition isn´t swift. Many people died and even die today because the struggle goes on. However this revolution is considered by the EU-parliament as a major turnpoint in history.

The 2011 Sakharov prize goes to five Arab Spring activists. Egyptian Asmaa Mahfouz rallied fellow citizen to protest through Youtube videos, Facebook and Twitter posts. Ahmed al-Zubair Ahmed al-Sanusi, once Libya's longest-serving political prisoner, is now trying to rebuild his country as a member of the National Transitional Council.

Razan Zaitouneh, a Syrian human rights lawyer, exposed murders and human rights abuses committed by the authorities. Ali Farzat's cartoons helped to inspire revolt, and led to Syrian security forces to break both his hands. Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire to protest humiliation by the Tunisian authorities. His death sparked the wave of protests now known as the Arab Spring.

It is thought that the Arab countries only changed regime for another one and the possible introduction of the sharia is a real treat for society.

Maybe that is not the real problem. Maybe the real problem is the large part of uneducated people without an independent view.

Kitchen

Tomorrow I´ll be informed about the possibilities of a new kitchen in my future new home. I wonder what choices there are. I honestly never thought about a gigantic kitchen. But now there are opportunities to install something better. With the new home I got to improve the situation. So lets see.

La crise

La crise financiere; this was June 2008. Now it's 3.5 years later and it's upgraded to la crise financiere mondiale!

When I went to bed last night after a very hectic day (later more about that), I heard the newsman with an update of the news. A former Minister told his opinion about the Euro. In his opinion the Euro-project failed totally. The Euro-currency he meant, I think.
I went to bed a little worried. This morning I thought that the financial markets would react on that opinion. But no, it surges after the losses of last weeks.

critizism

Papandreou has been critizised in the media many times.
A Dutch clip make some Greeks furious. The clipmaker got many hatemails... even the Greek Embassy protested that freedom of speech is important, but this is a bridge to far.

Nobody understands fucking satire in South east of Europe.Some.Greeks have no self reflection... it's sad that olicharchic Greece think that they invented democracy.
Greece has been run by families since it became a republic of the Orthodox.
This clip represents the anger of the unorthodox world....

condemn

I wrote some things on the Internet about the crisis in Greece and the politics involved with it. It seems that the Greek politics is like an oligarchy of families, one of them is the Papandreou family.

A minority ruling the Greek nation. Isn't that a huge contrast with the referendum Papandreou wanted to save his ass. democracy had to save olicharchy. Democracy is only meant to be for men with 6 slaves or more. Isn't it all ironic?
The referendum he wanted to use to clear his own internal problems. He wanted the other party to support his plans to keep the Greek into the EU. This operation almost succeeded but Papandreou lost his position. Talks proceed.

Italy is another problem. Yesterday evening Berlusconi almost resigned. Today he almost found a way out to stay for a while. He has made a condition for his resignation.

The financial markets shiver with this kind of news. Economist have no words for this crisis. They are speakless, finally.
This is really almost the implementation of the worst case scenario. And you know what people don´t know, life is going on like yesterday and 2 years before.

The past 3 years nothing happened to solve these inevitable problems with politics in the EU. This decisiveless EU parliament and EU-Government with highly paid EU-officials I condemn strongly.
It's not because what they are, it's because what they do and the system in which they work. Change has to come from within, from the people, from me.
It doesn't come and that is what I condemn too.

Poor

At last, the leaders of 2 southern countries who are responsible for the bad state of their country have gone.

A new one listening to the original name of Papademos might take over the office of Papandreou.
The father of the people takes over the office of the dynasty of 3 Papandreou's:
- Georgios Papandreou (1888-1968), former Prime Minister of Greece;
- Andreas Papandreou (1919-1996), economist and politician, former Prime Minister of Greece;
- George Papandreou (born 1952), politician, current Prime Minister of Greece.
(see Wikipedia)
It's time for a change in Greece. Finally there can be an united coalition of the 2 parties in Greeece.

The other one is the man who is not a gentleman at all, Berlusconi, a godfather of some Itailians. He might leave office tonight.

The crisis is political. There is also an economic crisis but that's not the main problem.
The EU ignored the problems of the debt countries and now we got to pay the debt to save these countries. I heard that Italy is to big to save. If it means that the EU can't save Italy, we need help of the International Monetary Fund to solve those big problems.
For this we blame of course Berlusconi...
And ourselves of course....

damned

Greece, an inspiring country under the Mediterranean sun in the south east of Europe. The islands along the Turkish coastline, the shore on the mainland, Athens and the history since mankind could reason. Where great philosophers had their cradle and where Papandreou shook the EU with his Greek version of Demos Kratos. His box of Pandora.

I thought that he might short sell stocks by proposing something crazy.
We need a great stability pact with more freedom of decision making with the Economic Commissions.
I´m very grieved with the Greek actions of the last days. We need silence and stability on the financial markets.

Occupy

Occupy Wall Street is a protest against what? The greed on WS? The institutionalized bonus culture of more, more, more even when it gets less? The politicians who don't stop it and seem not to care? It is just a thought?

In Europe and the rest of the world there is also an occupy protest today, Amsterdam 4,000 people, The Hague 1,500.
My protest is this blog. Down with the decisiveless politicians and the greedy speculators.

eyes

These are the eyes of the Western, expressing determination and unbelieve. The music is certainly the best for this scene, Ennio Morricone.

And the scene with the music.

An eye for an eye. It reminds me of the post I wrote in May this year, allowance, about the Iranian girl.

Mountain

It's a decision I've made already for myself. I'll climb the col de Alpe D'huez in the French Alpes.
By doing this I support the fight against cancer. The goal of the organization is to find money for making cancer a chronic instead of a mortal disease.

The main goal is to climb 1,000 meter in a 14,000 meter long road to the top of the mountain several times. Hopefully I get some people who donate some money on the account of my part of the AlpeDuZes-website which will follow later this year.

As a team of 8 cyclists we wanna raise 20,0000 Euro or more.
I'm excited how to reach so much money for the good cause.
Yeah, finally I can do something good with my more or less selfish riding.

There is one big question. To be part of the climbers I have to do a medical examination to secure my application for this ride.

cancer

I was positif about going to cycle against cancer on June 7 2012.
But now I feel negatif because of medical examination.

Eurocrisis

China, Canada and the USA have put pressure on Europe on the IMF summit in New York.
I'm happy with that pressure on and the advice for the delegation of 20 or something! Ministers of Finance got.
Europe is so decisive-less on the crisis with the debt countries in the south.
The European politicians don't decide on the major issues. They postpone the decision how to handle the crisis. In the meantime the crisis on the financial markets deepens.

This is not good for the stability in the world. China, Brazil, India, the USA, Australia, Japan, Indonesia will feel the lack of leadership.
This is the main problem of the EU.

C

Today is my 30th birthday, my rebirth, a totally new me.
A reboot of the system who I was. It changed me.
Despite my four weeks coma I still work with the same core processor inside.

Since that day plus 24 days I had to learn anything. But almost everything came back in a natural way. I didn't recognize that I worked for it. Children have the willpower go for real limits. Maybe it is one of the evolutionary elements we still have. We struggle through our lives and find way's to live because giving up is no option.

This is also the slogan of the bicycle climb of the Alpe d'Huez.
The ride is meant to earn money for the struggle against cancer.
The goal is to earn more than 30 mil. Euro.

I'll be there on June 7 2012.

nine eleven

I recorded it in my mind. Some minutes before 15.00 Amsterdam time I came home, turned on the radio and heard that a plane crashed into one of the twin towers. I turned on the TV screen, CNN, and saw the second plane fly into the other sky scraper. I was flabbergasted and knew that it must be an assault.

Yesterday I read through my written diaries and only a couple of day's after the attacks found some words referring to it.
First I compared it with the deaths in wars, later with tragic natural disasters like the Tsunami and the lack of a warning system. And now, 10 years later, I feel the pain of the victims in the towers again. When I saw in the second tower a person waving from a window to draw attention and another person (light trouser, dark shirt and hair-colour) trying to get out but then going in again, I couldn't avoid to cry.

In my country there are more and more measures to guarantee safety.
Yesterday a big helicopter patrolled or searched above the motorway and my neighborhood.
And we never hear the reason why that helicopter flew there simply it made to much noise.

I wonder can't humans be chipped like cats and dogs. Then you know anything about them just by one scan.

House

Can't hardly believe I am in the process of buying a house.
A house with a garden, 2 bedrooms, a study and a big attic.

I can't hardly believe it. It's a dream. It's also the process of cutting my decision bow I told about in a previous post.
But this is an extreme example. From nothing to something in less than 2 months. Don't think but do it. Buying a house I mean. But I thought it over for eight years.

Maybe not thinking but just doing is the meaning of life.

In one way or another this is another step on the Maslow pyramid.

Taxes

In a way you can say that raising taxes for the super rich is one way to show unity.

According to Warren Buffett raising taxes doesn't affect the willingness to invest.

Unity

Everything has to get worse in order to get better.

My blog is about what's the world facing now. It's good that humanity already knows the answer but the politicians in Europe and in the United States of America are a little slow to understand the problem.

What we need is the skill of China, India or Brazil to speak with one mouth.

We need unity, consensus like in the Dutch polder model.

holy

On the 14th of May I wrote about the Iranian woman living in Spain.. She's blind because an man sprayed acid in her eyes. Now she's allowed by the Iranian Justice to do the same with that jailed man.

However she is allowed, she has a legitimate reason and must be very bittered by what is done to her, she show this horrible man mercy. She deserves a statue. She should be declared holy by I don't know what kind of religious institution.

addition

In my last post I asked the next question;
Why have Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and other countries entered the EU while they weren't ready economically and politically?
This is not important now.
The question is how to get out of that mess.

To translate it to the future, the question is how we can learn from it.
From example Croatia as 28th country entering the EU. Others will follow, like Serbia, Montenegro, Albania. And they all want an equal standard of living. That is poli-economically hard to do.

bankrupt

Will Greece face bankruptcy? Yes they already face it. Whether Greece goes bankrupt that's the question.
History is on Greece's side. So the public opinion will save Greece once again. In the 19th century bank loans saved Greece. Now bank capital might save Greece. Banks have to give Greece voluntary new bank loans.
There is nothing voluntary about it. If they don't, the EU financial crisis will deepen itself. Banks will have less capital, Pension funds can't pay the pensions, states will face shortages. Money will be wasted.
Europe is in crisis for nothing than money and some people who can't handle it.

Why have Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and other countries entered the EU while they weren't ready economically and politically?

socialitics

Since May my blog has much more viewers. It's the spin off of a Malaysian based website of blogspot, http://1malaysiaautoforum.blogspot.com/
The website is about cars, it's an auto forum.
The site is impressive I must say, but I wonder what my site about socialitics subjects -(social & politics) has to do with it.

Hello

More than a month past since my last post.
I cycled, I worked and had a vacation in Germany.
We had a removal at work at the end of May. My department switched to another building. In the last days I couldn't do very much. The systems were down due to the removal which concerned 600 people or more.

I needed a vacation badly but at the same time I was a bit afraid for weeks of travelling. I didn't have a tent and didn't know where to sleep after 100 kilometer cycling. But as I went on vacation it wasn't bad at all. The first night I knew where to sleep but after that I had no idea. Hotels in Münster, Verl, Holzminden and Clausthal-Zellerfeld were okay.
In Clausthal-Zellerfeld I had an accident. It was not bicycle related. Just fell 3 metres down in a riverbed. My upper right arm hit a piece of metal (as I thought) or a rock. I think adrenaline made me not being dizzy. I first had to climb out. Then I noticed that there where a few bubbles on my arm, blood, scratches, and a lot of pain.
I climbed out of the deep trench and saw a ambulance rinding by. I only had to cycle 3 kilometers to Clausthal where I would look for a hotel, not realizing the seriousness of the injury. A kind German directed me to hotel Goldene Krone where I booked a room. Luckily it was 300 meters from a hospital. So I went there after a shower. In the hospital the doctor did cleaning the wound, using lots of Jodium, made a bandage and finally did an X-Ray. It looked broken. It wasn't luckily. The next day I had to be there again.

The next I showed up a 8 am and heard that I couldn't get on cycling.
I asked the doctor to let me cycle to the highest mountain there. Without packing I added. He allowed me.
24 Hours later I was home.

After that I still had 10 days to enjoy. June 20 I'll be working again.
What I've learned of this how to stay calm in these matters, being stoic in this situation. These are the facts you can't change, so don't worry about it. Some things you can change so work on them. For instance, change to a more silent room. Get enough sleep at the end of the day. Have a good breakfast in the morning. Well I succeeded but another thing happened.

When I was going downhill on my light bike (no packaging)my back wheel slipped and I almost fell with 40 k/hr. That was the moment when I thought that it was the moment to go home.

Of course there is the story of Mephistopheles in Faust.
Angels do exist?

allowance

An Iranian woman living in Spain has permission to do the same what happened to her when she denied a lover. That lover sprayed acid in her eyes. Now she's blind. In Iran an eye for an eye seems to be normal. It's a right in their legislation. Many people here in West Europe would like to have the same legislation.

Plato said "One should never do wrong in return, nor mistreat any man, no matter how one has been mistreated by him."
—Plato's Socrates (Crito, 49c) (c. 469 BC–399 BCE)

"One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself (positive form)[1]
One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated (negative/prohibitive form, also called the Silver Rule)" (wikipedia)
This Golden Rule can be found in many religions or ways of living. THey're the ethics of life.

So why should Spain allow a blind woman to treat her attacker the same way he attacked her. This is an inferior deed which is morally/ethically wrong.

Think, can we allow this? Well, we aren't all Platoists.

city-trip

However 33% of the city trip are on bike there are no really state of the art novelties in this 4th sized Dutch city.
It's a shame on the local authorities that for example on the spot of the video. This crowdedness is going on for a decade of even more. There are 2 busy lanes to cross and a tram passes from both sides. That makes 4 lanes.
Many people get injured here each year. It's not without a reason.
Shame on you Municipality to let it happen.

Syria

A person I know married to a Syrian woman last year. With the Arabian spring there is a kind of turmoil in the family. I think on both sides but certainly the Dutch side. The lack of information is a bad signal. The Dutch embassy is doing everything to keep the Dutch family updated about their Syrian relative. They try to find ways out of Syria. Lebanon is suggested. But what is the best way out? Through the mountains on the Syrian-Turkish border? I don't know. She needs a permit to leave the country. If he succeeds to bring her home to her new country it's another feel good movie.
Hopefully she escapes.

East Timor

Remember the Balibo 5 and Roger East

I saw a movie about it, Balibo. 1975 It was that Indonesia invaded the colony of Portugal. In fact Portugal left it alone. Only in 2002 it became independent. José Ramos Horta became a leader in the seventies and became President in 2006.

It was a movie with a certain impact. I wasn´t aware of what happened there. So little news is leaking to my part of the world about what´happens there today that I don´t know what happened there in history or the recent past.

Next week's marathon is open for foreign athletes who run for the money.
If there will be a foreign winner a Dutch company with African business connections will pay the price if the winner is a foreigner.
Still the Utrecht marathon stinks this year.

Moonshadow

Does the word sun-shadow exist? If it does then the moonshadow will exist too.
Tonight it's half moon and when I stood in the moonlight I saw a large shade of the wall over my balcony. I thought that it must be wet there. I touched the floor and it was dry. Then I realized that it was the shade of the moon making the floor darker.

Tomorrow, April 12 2011 it's 50 years ago, Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space.

city marathon

In my city a marathon has been organized annually.
This year only inhabitants of the Netherlands can practically register to run.
The organizers are fed up with every year a fast runner from abroad. They want a Dutch Marathon Battle to boost Dutch road athletics.
In my opinion this is really narrow minded. This introspective is so undutch. It's a Utrecht NSB-marathon, free from foreign influences. These are the days of Nazi-Germany.

Quicksand

Everything can be said of Christianity but the resilience of that faith is enormous.
You can say everything about the god of the Christians, about their Jesus Christ and his prophets.
John Cleese, Monty Python's Life of Brian
is an example of satire about the Jesus of Nazareth. Prophets like St. Paul are checked and criticized.
Wasn't he a henchman of the Romans?

Burning the bible is to much honour for this book of controversy.
Any book burned is one to much. Burning the bible won't solve anything but criticizing their believe and examining the wandering of it's prophets is the best we can do.
Be aware of the resilience of quicksand.

2 Years ago I bought a LCD television, great view, everything improved. Now I bought some content, digital HD television and more quality broadband.
Interactive television to watch when I want to see a program. It's just wonderful.

April 1

This is always a hectic period. The period of the tax return ends on March 31.

I just got some days left and some things I just don't wanna know. I don't want to spoil my appetite to live. Okay, maybe that's over the top, but I might get depressed by knowing to much. Being depressed is losing appetite anyway. So I had a question for my psychologist. But before answering she said that time was up. Lets answer that question next time. Next Thursday, March 31.
My question is simple "what is a manic depression"? I googled it and there was an answer but not completely satisfying. Can she give me answers?
Some 20 years ago a student-psychologist rhetorically asked me what I thought about MD.
Did he know that being diagnosed MD (I'm not, let that be clear) means something for somebodies life.
Jesus, I watched to many movies with a hypochondriac Woody Allen

This weekend I read. I bought 2 new books. One of Johnathan Franzen, the corrections, the other one is about the Biblical Old Testament, aka as the Hebrew Bible. As I wrote something which happened 2000 years ago in the middle east, this is literature I should have.

reading

The story about the fall of ABN AMRO Bank makes me think about the culture of greed in the banking world, how to run a public or private business, the accountability of managers and board.
Big banks with huge responsibilities towards their stakeholders play a winning or losing game which is based on the ego of their CEO. Really, they don't care about responsibilities. It's their game.

What about a movie titled the game? A 1997 movie but still......

benghazi

Benghazi, Benghazi it could be a movie, at least the title of it.

In 1955 Benghazi had been released. The plot: never steal a treasure from desert people. See IMDB
.
And now Gaddafi had his first air raid on his bab al-azizia, his command center. The dictator has to go, but how?

In 1982 when PLO chairman Arafat was under siege in Lebanon he begged for help "where are the Arabs?".
In 1991 coalition forces stood poised to drive Saddam Hussein from Kuwait.
Where were the Arabs in the coalition force?
Now on the first day of the raid on Tripoli, where are the Arabs?

Read the Al Jazeera story where are the Arabs?

Last week I had the feeling that there was going to be a war when some countries opposed the regime of colonel Gadaffi. The international world was to meek to make a fist. Only Thursday March 17 2011 the UN set resolution 1973.
I didn't like the thought of going to war to a country just on the other side of the Mediterranean. it isn't far away. Weeks to cycle. 3 hours flight.
I remembered the Dutch neutrality during the Great War, maybe we stayed neutral again. But no, the Dutch want to play a role in the international community. Where were we weeks ago?

drop

To drop a line.

Drop is the plural of dropje.
Drop are Dutch sweets made of the extraction from the dried roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra by hot water under pressure and then concentrated. Mixed with starch from potatoes or Arabic gum drop has been made. The color is pitch black.
It's a Dutch equivalent of chewing gum. Some drop are sticky but at least you can swallow it.

This weekend I swallowed a lot of drop. Probably because I'm getting nervous of the dental correction. At least I can have a dropje now (or a lot)

What happened Friday is something I mentioned before. I signalled it before.
The fact is that E. is back in town. She was only 3 and a half week in Buenos Aires. She called my colleague, who wasn't in. I answered the phone and we had some smalltalk. I didn't ask her about her funny walk only if she refreshed herself. And that she did.

The 2 dogs of last post represent the bond between animals when they face hard times. When a human doesn't calculate on those moments he stays with his wounded friend. Like being brothers in arms on the battlefield. It's not behavior only for humans I conclude.
What did the camera crew do? Humans have the right to get medicare and the crew has the duty to get the care. Different dogs? I don't think so.

tiger

Years ago we had neighboors raising their children in a strange way. When the children didn't make their homework from school well they had to stand on the staircase, face the stairs and there the children had to stand for some time. How long? No idea. But it was to make the children better, to let them learn and have excellent marks. The parents tried to break the children to make them do things the parents wanted them to do. It's psychological warfare between the parents and children.

For us, Dutchmen it's like being crazy. But in a way it isn't. It's accepted in society. We got a name for it; the church. It has it's derivates which are all based on the same believe in God. Some believes are more strict than others. But when it all comes together they can achieve great results in exploiting people. Churches bring people together and together they can reach something beyond reach for an individual.

With a non Catholic church the Dutch united to free their country from the Spanish Inquisitor.
In the meantime the 17th century started and it became the Golden Century of the Dutch. Only 5 million (a quick estimate) people ruled the waves. We had outposts everywhere in the known world of those days.

How did we do that?
We were reliable when we had to. Traders exist by having customers. The Dutch merchants could deliver products nobody had in Europe.
So unity made us big. (the United East Indies Company) We didn't want the highest quality because quality has it's price. We just had the best price/quality ratio.

Now I'm back in the present world where I see competitiveness and fathers and mothers still wanting the best for their kids.
They tell their kids what to do, what to want and how to pursue the objectives the parents set. For one type of parent the highest isn't good enough. They are called the tiger mother and tiger father. They want their offspring to be the best in the qualities they have. They demand 10's in Europe and the equivalent A's in the US.

Okay, what's up doc? Boring?
Well the American Amy Chua is a tiger mother and she wrote a book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

This is madness if it's being institutionalized.
Yeah, being the best in something you study at University. Only one can be the best. There will be a lot of ugly faces because they didn't make it.
This is not efficient and effective. The price of studying will be higher. Maybe the money driven college will attrack more motivated students but keeps the spirit of creativity away.
In a way the Dutch are moving towards an University where only the best can go to. This is painfull for those who aren't. Being the best costs a lot. I should have had a tiger mother, ha ha.
It pays when you have one.
Are studies available on being raised by a tiger mother? I wonder how the social & emotional component of the study is interpreted.

I think the Chinese concept for raising your kid(s) is functional in a Chinese structure. There are many people with the same skills and knowledge.
The Chinese have as object China. China is aimed at the interior. That means much competition and being outstanding is something to be when you want to climb Maslow's mountain of these days.

The Dutch have to be aimed at the exterior. Through history we have had to be efficient and effective. The last thing we need is a tiger as a parent.

brainvillage

Well I've had an intake for the next step to work on my strengths and weaknesses.

One of my weaknesses came to me in a dream. I really have forgotten time when I had that dream, say nightmare. That was the point of no return.
More strengths were presented to me in an assessment report from 2001. I totally neglected this report. I do have major strengths and the art is to exploit and develop these. Doesn't the O stand for opportunity?

I have to formulate the ultimate goal I want to achieve at the end of these fortnight sessions in a business center on a recently developed state of the art brain village in the middle of the Netherlands.

Well, this is the first step.

science

I knew it, the burial site for my dog was an ancient camp for Neanderthal hunters. Archaeologists found a large amount of flint tools used with the hunt. Those Neanderthalers lived there between 100,000 and 50,000 years ago. 30,000 years ago they were followed by the modern human being.
The Neanderthalers weren´t the best adapted species.

I must smile when I think about the relatively short time period we are on earth in comparison with other animals and living creatures.
It makes me sad if I think with what ease we destroy our habitat. If animals would do this with their habitat it will end in a fight. The outcome has been described as the survival of the fittest.

tongue

I was right about the sunshine. What a lovely day. But, o, freezing cold.

What's in the news? Libya is on fire. People don't want Kadhaffi anymore.
I don't say -the people- yet, but it's obvious that Kadhaffi and his clan fall if they use the weaponry of the army and the tongue of war.

Help, I don't got visitors from South America, such as Chili, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Surinams can't find me. I do think a lot of and about Bouterse and his friends.
I can say something about the Falklands war which was very surrealistic for me. It was 1982 and I was recovering from an accident not realizing what happened on the TV-screen. A real war between Thatcher's Great Britain and Argentine's dictatorship.

birthday

Today is my brothers birthday.
Tomorrow it's mine and Thursday it's my sisters.
Within 5 days we all have our birthday. It's all very organized and planned. It has some advantages but I never took them for granted.

Another thing, due to the fight with the taxi driver I found a letter in the mailbox today. It's from my work and it announces I can expect an official written warning. I can protest it, but I won't.
I respect the warning and I regret what I've done but I also see it a diploma for climbing Maslow's mountain.
It's only a fall but after that I can take a huge step to become even better.

New walk

E. is traveling to Argentina.
First she takes a summer school course of 2 weeks in Buenos Aires to learn more Spanish. Then she will travel around for 2 weeks.
Great of E., the girl with the big mouth. Everybody loves E. In no time
she will have many friends down there in that big country.

I think it is a wise decision to learn some words Spanish. Probably you won't get in touch with the locals and it is also and act of respect to the people to talk with them in their own language. Anyhow, at this moment Arnon Grunberg is also in Argentina. No coincidence that she doesn't like the writer. That they choose the same destination is a coincidence.

I wonder what Grunberg thinks when he would see E. deboarding the airplane. When she gets her luggage, would he wonder if it would be a trolley or a backpack?
E. is more of the trolley department and she owns the complete Ministry of funny walks (a mutual colleague said that). How would she walk away with 4 weeks of luggage in her trolley? What walk would accompany?
Or would she have a backpack? I can't believe that. E. needs a strange new walk.

Yeah, I'm making fun of E. But I've never met the real E., else I would know how she handles her luggage.

hit

A few posts ago I spoke about the fall. I would write about it later I wrote.
This is the moment.

On Wednesday February 2 I had a difference in opinion about behavior in traffic. A taxi driver didn't signal that he wanted to turn right.
I was crossing the street and waited for him to pass. I made sure he didn't had the signals on and made it clear to him.

Many things happened. But the main the main thing is that I hit him in the face after being spit.
He wanted to go to the police. I have talked with the police (the police is on the radio now, what a coincidence)

The police officer told me that I could try mediation. I could do that, but no luck sofar.

I had a justify myself for the head of the department and she reports to the director. I know them both from the Council meetings. It's such a shame.

Overcoming setbacks is a part of climbing Maslow's mountain.

waiting

I waited 30 minutes for the doctor in the waiting room. I told him that it was a long waiting.
I waited 2 weeks for my new pair of glasses. I told the optician that it was quick.

Tunisia-Egypt

After 30 years of dictatorship in those countries finally the people rejected the dictator.

Suppression doesn't work on the long run my old friend told me, people will always deny it and find a way out of it. After the party work has to be done.

If we were democracy then we should take Algeria, Maroc and Iran too.
That's what we gonna do ...

Fall

Climbing means risking falling down. It means taking a certain risk of jeopardizing yourself and the crew you climb with. With taking a calculated risk of a fall it means you accept the risk of falling.

Is climbing similar to life and risks of climbing similar to the risks you face in life?
Accept life as it is. Accept that only you can change it for yourself.
Whatever will happen, see it as a step to Maslow´s peak.

If you can fall, I can fall and I did.
Mind that the fall is a metaphor, just as the mountain is.

China

Who said, "We´re number one. We're number one." ? Certainly not the US. referring to Lori Harfenist her column of January 28 2011.

I saw the women Australian open tennis final on Saturday. A national from tiny Belgium, Kim Clijsters, won the final from Chinese coming tennis hero Li Na.
And yes, they played a great match. Not the tennis from another planet but human tennis.

History shows that China is coming as a tennis nation. Li Na is the first Chinese finalist of a Grand Slam. It became possible just 2 years after the possibility for Chinese tennis players to choose an own coach.

Help, the Chinese are coming?
No way, if they are good and fit in the worldwide system they are more than welcome.
Beside all this, the Chinese is a fresh woman. A new role model.

News

Woke up this morning with the 9 am radio newsbulletin. The first I heard was that Iran executed Zahra Bahrami. A Dutch national who was born in Iran.
I shiverred and it's not the first time with such bad news from Iran. It's not confirmed yet by the Dutch embassy so there is still hope.

* Execution by hanging has been confirmed and the most exterme Dutch party has said that we should expel the Iranian ambassador.

This is the nightmare every person could find himself in, esspecially with double nationality. The Netherlands warns nationals with also an Iranian nationality not to go to the land of origin.
This is so absurd. I heard that just yesterday there were movements in the juridical field. That possibly triggered her execution by the ones who wanted her dead.
This is a foreign political game. The Netherlands should remain giving shelter to the surpressed in the world. Calling the ambassador back home isn't a wise thing because you have to stay on spreaking terms. Even if the other country has different values.

* update January 31 2011 Bahrami is convicted to have smuggled almost 16 kilograms cocaine into the Netherlands in 2003.

sound bites

All the turmoil in North Africa, what is it good for? Soundbite, it has a melody. Tell me what is it good for?

I always thought it was the goodlife in North Africa. But why did all the people from there come to Europe in the sixties, seventies and eighties?
We had of course, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Ike & Tina Turner, the Ramones, or on way to the disco era.

Of course they came here for the music. We all go where the music is.
We all come to churches where the music is. We come to the popconcerts where the music is.
So now we have to go to North Africa where the music is. But who cancelled our flights to where the music is?
Aren't we allowed by our own Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hear the sound of music in the streets of Tunis and Cairo?

You really should watch this Antwerp flash mob video..... we only need music to be happy.
But it's a shame that a company is behind it. It's not original anymore.

If I have this thought and let it apply on the situation in Egypt, then it isn't really the voice of the people but the voice of the movement behind it. Nevertheless such huge organized protests must have organisers. Hopefully the organisers do what is in the interest of the people of Egypt.

N-word

Es gibt größere Probleme wie das Amerikänischen N-wort.
Nevertheless I want to express my opinion.

"..... but names will never harm." This is right.. but the man in the street says also it depends on the way you say it. The N-word in HF is functional and removing it means censorship... So wrong.... Maybe in the USA people might sue the publisher..
To censor yourself is an act of good taste. (or it can cost you a lot of money)
Look at Sarah Palins deathlist that should be illegal and be censored!

Did I hear a lady say "that's how the Dutch think."
Holland is a small nation and we always try to find common sense. But the freedom of speech and expression is one of the basic principles in the Dutch constitution.
The Court will judge if it is in violation of a (higher) law.

reshuffle

Two weeks ago the Works Council received a report. It's rubbish I told the Works Council in a mail.

At last Monday's meeting I heard the chairman saying that the report has to be reshuffled. She said it has to be changed because it didn't meet her standards.

It was so sexy to hear that from her. I keep it in my head; to be reshuffled. Wall Street shuffle. The world shuffles every now and then.
So why can't we. I'm still rehearsing.

the rat

We don't see each other but we communicate, not much but still we do. Sometimes we hear from each other by a message, a note, an email, rumors. Then suddenly we meet in the underground parking garage where I stall my bike and where you lend a bike.
Like rats we meet when you wanted to go in to bring back the bike. I opened the door and there you stood.
"how are you?"
"fine, how are you?"
Like social rats we talked about the rumors. Things which will going to happen with the implementation of the Organizational Plan, the possibilities the Organizational Plan gives, the opportunities of it.

Sometimes it gives a good feeling to be a rat down in the basement of the building. It feels good.

Lori Harfenist has an open authentic style of asking questions, great. She is so vivid.

Do you know where my money is? On Wall Street.

weekend

The Saturday was good. I read my books and did other reading stuff.

In the portal some one is going to do some jobs in the newly bought house. So it could be a little bit noisy was stated on a letter I found yesterday in the postbox. Everything is still quiet in my portal. So far so good.

Finally some one who is specific about the times the work will be done. On labour days, some times on a Saturday.

This is better than the last new neighbors who didn't tell anything.
I didn't tell nothing either when I moved to this house. My neighbor made her complaint about it. It looks such a long time ago.

I have put a link on the blogs I read The Resident

contrast

A long time ago there was a house in a man made forest. I was afraid of the house. In the house lived a family. That family had 2 lovely daughters. The path leading to the house started at the public road. At the junction of the path and the public road there was a farmhouse.

After the divorce of my parents I went to that farmhouse. I learned something about farm life, country life. I learned the language of my parents. I learned something from the bible, being in a church, going to school on a Sunday. I learned how it feels to be the best in class. I learned how not to make love to a lovely girl in a cornfield. I learned the difference between life and death. I learned the difference between snowfall and a blizzard. I learned about the danger of a storm.
I killed fish and nurtured calves. I chased birds to be shot by hunters. I stole bird eggs from nesting birds. I learned how to ride an unsaddled horse.

That year I've had no fear while my parents had a fight. While my lil sis and lil bro lived in the house we used to live in as a family. This continued for more than a year. That year I felt that I lost family life. And I wept about it, silently.
That year was also the most fantastic year in my life in which I don´t want to play a part in again.

Back to the house in the man made woods there once lived my great grandmother. I didn´t know that history in those days. It was a year of the contrasts, the good and bad side.

Monday

Yesterday seemed to be the Blue Monday of 2011. I heard it on my work.
A colleague said it to our teamleader.... when I heard the 2 words I told them that every Monday is a blue one to me.

Monday 17 January I had a great WC meeting. We discussed questions we have for the Management Team concerning the reorganisation and the meeting with the director. In fact the reorganization is fantastic for personel, everything will be heavenly arranged if it goes as it should go.

120 employees worked on the plan. That is almost 20% of the total population of my department. Here management has a pro because they created a huge supporting area. That is the basis of every reorganisation, at least it should be. But from business life I know that 60 to 85% of mergers don't succeed. Why should reorganizations in a department of a Municipality be very different?

From my point of view as an employee I welcome the reorganization. Everything will be difficult but it opens many windows of opportunities.
For example the posibility to grow personally. The organisation has come to an halt because growth is blocked.

I was at the office till 5.30 pm. If I don't have a positive work attitude ..... Do I invest in growth?

Flat

Suddenly I knew it. The title of the book. The world is flat by Thomas Friedman. A book about a positive possible reality about globalization in the near future if I may believe what I read. That book I wanted to buy as a present for E.? Think.

fairy tales

Sometimes I got the feeling I´m living in another dimension, in a parallel world. For example when I walk through the city to buy another book I feel euphoric. In the bookstore I got time and feel relaxed to find the book which I didn´t find. (a present for E.) It´s no problem I also wanted to read a book (the prey) about the downfall of ABNAMRO bank. I was very angry about these stupidities of some people in top levels of the predator (several banks) as well as prey. Those people believed in fairy tales. How to get rich in an instance.

Laura Jansen is a fairy tale too... I thought she was British... but is authentic Dutch.

And Urban Dance Squad could have been the older brother of Rage Against The Machine.

running

My sport was running, mother of all sports. After an injury I changed my sport to cycling. Try to be fast and /or cycle large distances. Until September 2010, I lost the appetite to cycle. Since the ninth month I didn't sport and that I feel. I tried several times to run again. I need to sport. A colleague of me asked me to run with her. She ran the Sylvester run together with another colleague whom I helped to finish below the 4 hours on the Marathon a few years ago.

She was persistent and also asked me to run when I told her that I always run to fast. She told me I should run with her when I should slow down. She doesn't run fast.
Last weekend had high temperatures and made it good to run. Unfortunately I didn't take the chance. This weekend the same. But today I ran, not fast, but that's not important. Hopefully I can run tomorrow. Her persistence in the back of my mind helps.

lot

My day was okay. I had a lot of work to do.
At 8.30 am I was at the office. We had a rush-hour because of the accounting figures we had to deliver. And as always is the fact in the late hours something has to be adjusted.
After that I could return to my normal work and made some progress with that.
I made some calls with colleagues, read and wrote a few emails to the Works Council. C'est inderdit pour moi But the work was interesting.
Next Monday we have a meeting with the WC. We'll shake things up hopefully.

Informing

I have an opinion about informing people.
If you inform people about something that's going to change some one's personal situation you do it personally.

Management must think that it wasn't the case for them.
Thursday/Friday we all could read the Organisational plan on the Intranet. Including the plans which have huge effect on some people... to put it bluntly, your present job will be no longer there in the new organisation.
Then the employer should tell what their obligations are. He has a lot of them.
But it wasn't that way. It was just a message on the intranet.

I wrote 2 emails to the Works Council colleagues. I telephoned with 1 colleague whose job is in the danger zone. On my department I spoke with a colleague who visited the gathering about the plans. He is positive and sees chances for the present employees.
I must admit that.

If I was real cynical, I should say it's a survival of the fittest, natural selection. A Darwinian, sociological and psychological experiment.

World

Freedom is great, but what is freedom?

In this blog the writer says the right thing concerning Mrs Simple Palin.

She has the right to take a stand. She has the right to target members of congress like they are animals which should be decimated.
Does she have the integrity and Christian moral (love your enemy...) not to do that?

America has double moral standard. Murdering abortion doctors is OK. Gun smoke is okay to get rid of your enemy. Born to kill. Death row is OK. 19 Years in prison for help in a street robbery. 30 Years locked up behind bars is OK even if you are not guilty.

For conservative America believing in the God of love apparently everything is allowed.

There might be a screw loose in the United States. The world needs conservative Joe the Plumber to repair. Well, you know, the conservatives are reigning in Europe. Europe could help a hand.

Utrecht

Utrecht wants to become a beautiful city. It is already with the gorgeous old city.
Utrecht wants to become a more attractive city of over 300,000 inhabitants. Therefor the city invests in public transport to the train station, a better Public Transport Terminal, also integrated with the town hall (ready in 2014) which will be situated nearby. Traffic will be underground concerning a by cars crowded square. That place will be an oasis for people living on the east side of Lombok, an old neighborhood. It will be a pleasure to walk to the city.

Spring

Saturday 10.00 AM cup of coffee and read some pages concerning the Works Council.

11.00 AM I read some pages while the washing machine turned the laundry around in the water. I only have to read the organisational plan again.
There is also a formation plan which says which function are disputable. Management is discussing if functions can be done by external parties. They should also communicate with the people involved.
I know of 2 colleagues whose jobs are in the danger zone. Of a third person I know that she is an external flex worker. Also her job might be on the danger list. But the exact organisation is not clear. 2 Team Leader will have a secretary to support them?

Noon, the wind blows, some rain showers, high temperatures (11 C) instead of the low temperatures (-2 C) of last weeks.
I go to my grocery.

14.30 PM I've read the newspaper and watched some ice speed skating.
The door in the lee of the house is ajar. Fresh air fills the space.

16.00 PM I read again in skin and hair, cleaned my fridge and went to the groceries again. I think I like the word groceries, grocery store.

Walking to the shopping centre I saw blue lights of a police car. I saw the car blocking a TNT post box. When returning home I saw a policeman talking with a shop owner. When I went home I saw a police helicopter circling in the air above the centre of the neighborhood. On the Internet I read that the shop was robbed by someone with a gun. Doesn´t happen often here and that on broad daylight. On this site a picture.

20.00 dinner and television. Still got to read some more and write this down.

bored

This reaction I read on grunberg.com. Actually it's mine.
ha ha, who wants to be a bore... boredom cost to many lives in history. Wasn't WWII started with a bored Deutchland?
If a Genocide triggers the economy of those who commit a Genocide then the solution is there where the boredom is.

But without taking risks nobody flies like a bird.
The loser will have to take a risk to fly.
Eventually the bored loser will be smart enough to stay in the air.

It's about the idea how a Genocide helps the economy of those who commit the Genocide. They gain the most from it.

smile

Plenty of smiles a day keeps the doctor away.

At work the plans of management were made public. What will happen from May 2011 is that the team leaders have to apply for their job. The excess of labour supply will be phased out on a natural way for the time being.
The goal is that in 2014 there will be 30% less employees. The municipality is forced to expense cutting in for instance subsidising integration and language schools.
The main cutting will be on it's own employees. That is the easiest part but probably the citizen will feel the colder wind too.

It's funny but in 2014 there will be a mega building for the employees of the whole municipality. It costs hundreds of millions of Euro. I smile about this. It's gonna be great. Smile........

sacrifice

Faust sold his soul to the devil. He did his utmost to be immortal.
In words of these times;
How far do you go developing yourself? Which sacrifices are you prepared to bring?

Talking about these times. Yesterday evening I got a phone call from the broadcast corp. I supported once. They could offer me a 26 weeks subscription and a trolley for only € 9,=. I said no to this offer and I motivated this with the words that the programs they broadcast are good but that the system is wrong. Times are changing. Everything must be more efficient and effective, therefor all the public broadcast corporations should unite in a BBC-like, commercial free, corporation.

hate

Unfortunately some people think that the reverse of love is hate… ha ha dream on.
Primo Levi said "The reverse of love is not hate, but nonchalance. "
It therefore will be possible that something you hate, you also might love… A hate-love affair?
If you are ended up in a hate-love affair, you're almost in an impossible position which could damage your personal integrity. If that is the fact, you have a problem. Then it is time to talk.

Haus am See - House at the lake - nameless lake, Freedom
